State B Tourney in Mitchell – Quarterfinals begin

Winner/Colome Pheasants

Garretson Blue Jays 6-5

Garretson just held on to get into the semis of the State B Amateur Baseball Tourney w/ a 6-5 win over Winner/Colome yesterday.  The Blue Jays were out-hit 13-8 and had five errors, but still advanced after giving up 3R in the T9.  The Pheasants had runners on the corners with one down after getting within a run, but a strike out & ground out ended the game.

Larchwood, IA, Diamonds  15-2 (7inn)

Irene Cardinals

Larchwood crushed the Cardinals of Irene yesterday, 15-2, in a 7inn run-rule game.  The Cards committed six errors in the loss and were out-hit 15-7.  Every starter in the Diamonds’ line-up had at least one hit, 8/9 had at least 1R scored, and 7/9 drove in at least one run.

Johnston, IA

Kearney, NE  6-5

The kids from Nebraska one-upped the exciting win that Sioux Falls had a day before, shocking the youngsters from Iowa, 6-5, yesterday.  The SD squad scored 5x in the B6 to get a walk-off win over Missouri on WED (their 1st loss), but Nebraska eliminated Iowa after Johnston came from a 2-0 deficit in the top of the 6th to take a 5-2 lead.  The Kearney kids answered the 5-spot with 4R in the home half of the 6th to get the walk-off win.  Just like SD, the Nebraska team had the potential winning run thrown out at home after they had tied the game, making it two outs.  Kearney then got the clutch 2-out single to win it, this one from Brooks Paul.
