Audit Committee asks rail leader to attend next meeting

YANKTON, S.D. (WNAX) – The Government Operations and Audit Committee of the South Dakota Legislature has asked state Transportation Department Secretary Darin Bergquist to appear at their next meeting and answer questions about operations on the state-owned MRC rail line, and Dakota Southern Railroad.

Bergquist says they have been updating the committee on operations along that line.

A derailment near Kimball brought the issue up again. Bergquist says that is part of rail operations.

Bergquist says they have had an ongoing dialogue between his department, the State Railroad Board and GOAC.

Dakota Southern provides grain train service on the MRC line between Mitchell and Kennebec.
