Volunteer drivers needed to help out Veterans

ABERDEEN, S.D. (HubCityRadio.com) – The Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Volunteer Transportation Network (VTN) is in need of additional drivers to help provide transportation for Veterans from Aberdeen to Sioux Falls.

There have been 53 requests for services since May 24 and there are just five drivers.

DAV VTN Transportation Coordinator Ben Kitto said that being a driver might fit into somebody’s schedule who is retired.

Applicants must pass a background check, have a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance. Those who are interested can contact Kitto at (605) 216-1226.

He knows there will probably never be an abundance of drivers, but he is hoping that a few others will volunteer to help lighten the load on the current drivers, who make anywhere from 8-15 trips per month to and from the Sioux Falls VA Health Care System facility.

While drivers do not get paid, there is a free meal included in the trips. Plus, this is a chance to give back to the individuals who have given their service to help protect the freedoms of our country.
