Boy dies from injuries suffered in crash east of Brookings

BROOKINGS, S.D. (Press Release) – A 6-year-old boy has died from injuries suffered in a two-vehicle crash that occurred Wednesday, March 7, three miles east of Brookings.

A 2009 Toyota Corolla was westbound on U.S. Highway 14 when the driver lost control on the ice-covered roads. The vehicle slid across the center line into the eastbound lane and collided with a 2002 International 9400 semi truck.

All three passengers in the Toyota were injured. Ethan Rosa of Aurora, S.D., who sustained life-threatening injuries, died this past weekend in a Sioux Falls hospital. The other passenger, a 10-month-old male, also received life-threatening injuries and remains hospitalized in Sioux Falls. The 27-year-old female driver suffered serious non-life threatening injuries.

The 44-year-old male driver of the semi was not injured.

All four occupants were wearing seatbelts.

South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

The Highway Patrol is part of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
