President signs executive order imposing tariffs on imported steel, aluminum

YANKTON, S.D. (WNAX) – President Trump signed an executive order last week, imposing tariffs on imported steel and aluminum. The hikes will take effect in about two weeks.

Those tariffs will have an impact on regional manufacturers.

Jeff May is President of Kolberg-Pioneer, a heavy equipment manufacturer in Yankton. He says those tariffs will hit hard.

May says the announcement from the President was unexpected.

May says they have sales contracted out into the second half of the year.

May says they buy their steel from U.S. brokers, and it is a combination of American and foreign products. Kolberg-Pioneer employs about 450 workers at their Yankton facility.
