Wolves Hoopster Earns High Praise

St. Paul, Minn. (NSUWolves.com) – The 2017-18 D2CCA NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball All-Central Region First and Second Teams have been announced as voted upon by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) from the region. Northern State junior Ian Smith was named to the D2CCA second team, notching the first all-region honor of his career.

The Central Region consists of 42 men’s basketball teams from the Northern Sun (16 teams), Mid-America (14 teams) and Great American (12 teams) conferences. In all, 10 teams were represented with each garnering one selection.

Smith started all 36 games for the Wolves the season, averaging 11.8 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game. The junior is shooting 45.1 percent from the floor, 33.0 percent from the arc, and 71.2 percent from the foul line. He has recorded 23 games in double figure scoring, with one double-double this season. Smith has recorded career highs this season in points (26), assists (10), and steals (4). He finished regular season league action ranked ninth in assists per game (4.0) and 14th in assist/turnover ratio (1.8). The Brooklyn Park native leads the Wolves in field goal attempts, assists, steals, and minutes this season.
