House Majority Leader opposed to additional gambling

PIERRE, S.D. (WNAX) – A Supreme Court decision this week could open up sports betting across the country.

It would take a constitutional amendment in South Dakota to allow the additional gambling.

House Majority Leader Lee Qualm of Platte says he is not interested.

Qualm says there are not many positives with expanded gambling.

Supporters of sports betting point to the potential money for the states. Qualm says that money comes with extra costs.

The Deadwood Gaming Association has expressed interest in following up on the potential of expanded gaming.
