INITIATIVES

 

The employment unit engaged in the following broad outreach initiatives in accordance with various elements of FCC Rule 73.2080(c)(2):

 



Co-sponsored 2 job fairs with organizations in the business and professional communities whose membership includes substantial participation by women and minorities. The stations were represented by personnel who have substantial responsibility in making hiring decisions.



2011 South Dakota Career Center Job Fair, Tuesday, March 22, 2011. Hosted at the Aberdeen Civic Arena, Program Director attended.

Participation in training programs designed to enable station personnel to acquire skills that could qualify them for higher level positions.

 

 

Sales Manager attended the RAB Training Academy in Dallas, TX, July 19th thru July 21st, 2011.

 

General Manager Attended Fall 2011NAB Radio Convention in Washington, DC, September 14th thru 16th, 2011. Attended the sessions providing training on sales, regulatory and technical matters.

 

Management and Sales staff participated in a three days sales training in Minneapolis, MN on January 29-January 31, 2011 with Terry Shockley conducting the three day event. Individual break-out sessions were held for managers, sales managers and sales staffs.

 

FCC Compliance Inspection at station site on Wednesday, September 7th, 2011 .Inspector provided training to Office Manager, Sales Manager, Program Director and General Manager on matters of FCC regulatory compliance, including public file, engineering and EEO matters.”

 

Participated in 3 events sponsored by educational institutions relating to career opportunities in broadcasting.



















Sponsored one event in the community designed to inform and educate the public as to employment opportunities in broadcasting.

Aberdeen Area Chamber of Commerce, 3rd Annual Youth Career Expo-Post High Career Planning Days-Thursday, September 29, 2011, co-sponsored by Aberdeen Central High School and held in the main arena of the Aberdeen Central High School Gym, from 8:00am to Noon, Aberdeen, SD.”

Stations participated in Job Shadow day with On-Air Staff in May 2011. A high school student from Aberdeen, SD, that attends Central High School, job shadowed our KSDN-AM staff.

Station announcer spoke to the Sports Media Class at Presentation College, Aberdeen, SD, Thursday, September 29th, 2011. Topics included radio broadcasting and reporting of sports events, interviewing techniques, and community service and sponsorship.



Participated in Junior Achievement Event with the Roncalli School System, November 8th, 2011, Aberdeen, SD. Employment booths were set-up for business to better educate the public about each business and service provided. Shift times were 3:30-5:30pm and 9:30-11:30pm.
